Strange, because I just checked the recent Sonic & Knuckles + Sonic 2 + Sonic 3 I talked about, and the Sonic 2 rom in it perfectly matches the Rev A one (CRC 7B905383).

Maybe the old Sonic 2 WAD was badly extracted?

I don't think that it was badly extracted as the checksum (the first byte that differs) is correct.
