(Virtual Console) GBA dumps (European/USA/JAP/KOR)

Post by dreimer » 04 Nov 2017 16:34

Due to the fact I own(ed) most of these on my Wii U (before Lightning struck) I thought I should check the GBA VC titles a bit. My results were quite interesting:

I was able to extract 30 titles from EU store thx to WiiU USB Helper and these got extracted with most recent v0.5.1 of wiiu-vc-extractor.

24 titles are known already:
Advance Wars (Europe) (En,Fr,De,Es) (Virtual Console)
Advance Wars 2 - Black Hole Rising (Europe) (En,Fr,De,Es,It) (Virtual Console)
Castlevania - Aria of Sorrow (Europe) (En,Fr,De) (Virtual Console)
Castlevania - Harmony of Dissonance (Europe)
Castlevania (Europe) (Virtual Console)
Fire Emblem - The Sacred Stones (Europe) (En,Fr,De,Es,It) (Virtual Console)
Fire Emblem (Europe) (En,Fr,De) (Virtual Console)
F-Zero - GP Legend (Europe) (En,Fr,De,Es,It) (Virtual Console)
Klonoa - Empire of Dreams (Europe)
Legend of Zelda, The - The Minish Cap (Europe) (En,Fr,De,Es,It)
Mario & Luigi - Superstar Saga (Europe) (En,Fr,De,Es,It) (Virtual Console)
Mario Kart - Super Circuit (Europe) (Virtual Console)
Mario vs. Donkey Kong (Europe) (En,Fr,De,Es,It)
Mega Man Battle Network (Europe) (Wii U Virtual Console)
Mega Man Battle Network 3 - Blue (Europe) (Wii U Virtual Console)
Metroid Fusion (Europe) (En,Fr,De,Es,It) (Virtual Console)
Namco Museum (Europe)
Pac-Man Collection (Europe) (Wii U Virtual Console)
Pokemon Pinball - Ruby & Sapphire (Europe) (En,Fr,De,Es,It)
Super Mario Advance (USA) (Virtual Console)
Super Mario Advance 2 - Super Mario World (Europe) (En,Fr,De,Es)
Super Mario Advance 3 - Yoshi's Island (Europe) (En,Fr,De,Es,It) (Virtual Console)
Super Mario Advance 4 - Super Mario Bros. 3 (Europe) (En,Fr,De,Es,It) (Wii U Virtual Console)
Wario Land 4 (USA, Europe) (Virtual Console)

Quite nice to see that most already is added... Buut 6 were not:
DRILLDOZER P (CRC32:EDFD311C)
Golden Sun The Lost Age (CRC32:25325EB0)
Golden Sun (CRC32:A95413D5)
Mario Golf Advance Tour (CRC32:9A049D4E)
Metroid Zero Mission (CRC32:0C8E4287)
Polarium Advance (CRC32:4329D8FE)

I have no clue if these were not added with a reason or just noone added then up to now, but here they are: https://www.dropbox.com/s/kwk647ajpo9x3 ... wn.7z?dl=0
Do as you think it's right to.

I planned the same for NES. but somehow ALL files extracted are not known, neither as NES nor FDS file, which makes me think I did something wrong. https://www.dropbox.com/s/1g0mu678c310rnt/NES.7z?dl=0

SNES is out of debate to add or not, thus I wont continue any further there.

Maybe I will try the same for USA and Japan, but first you have to tell me if my doing is of any help or if you need more information or even want me to stop doing that ^^

I can only compare the NES ROMs to actual NES dumps, and just looking at Balloon Fight (compared to the Animal Crossing ROM, the one I happen to have available to compare), I see only one byte difference in the actual ROM, but Nintendo used a different header (and a footer), it seems.

Of any use? Not just the NES which seem to be less useful, but what about the GBA ones? Verification can be done by anyone using the same tools I did.

Nintendo seemed to do a bunch of fiddling for the VC, I already dumped a bunch of these GBA roms but my hashes don't seem to compare properly to yours. When you extract the roms from RAM, they come bit-flipped and you have to fix them, keep that in mind. I got a little C program to do that, you might want to check your roms load in mGBA first and if not run them through: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B09Zq ... 0JZbVdjYWM

src: https://github.com/taylorking/GbaByteFiddle

and the forum post (sorry for the giant wall): viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2796

If it's on my end, certainly egg on my face. I grabbed roms using inject_gba to extract them and then TCPGecko to extract from RAM and double-check. If you're interested in checking inject_GBA out, the original repo is here: https://github.com/ajd4096/inject_gba but it has a bum GUI implement that never got done and throws an error unless you fiddle with it a bit. I forked it and lopped off everything that seemed to point at that but I'm not sure if it's quite right (I know nothing about python yet, still) https://github.com/Hking0036/inject_gba-nogui Sorry that everything is a bit sparse.

The fact that only 5 ROMs are different / not existent and the rest being fine, I would say my method is not wrong. But I still wait for a reply telling me if any of this is of ANY use for no-intro. ^^

*bump*

BTW, these are not dumped from RAM, so no need for the tool mentioned I would say.

Hey, sorry, this is just a case of forgetfulness on my part (and maybe others). I'll get them in when I get the chance.

EDIT 2:
I was bored and checked the N64 ones too. 29 of 30 are fine, but one Paper Mario (PAL one) is not detected. Maybe because it's size is not 64 MB, but 48 MB ^^ https://www.dropbox.com/s/lrfd19zss056a ... P0.7z?dl=0

EDIT 3:
I wonder why no one ever did what I do now. Anyways. Be prepared that I am tinkering on a nice way to do the same with 3ds VC titles. Expect quite a few entries for GB/GBC at first, too.

I loaded the whole 3DS GBA entries and experimented with these. In this case I used ONCE MORE Wii U USB Helper to get CIA files and HackingToolkit9DS's Mass Extract Mode to get the files inside em. GBA Roms are in a file called code.bin inside ExeFS which is the ROM and *drumroll* a footer. Yeah something new... centuries of strange headers and Nintendo uses a footer. This thingie is exactly 864 Bytes long, thus you truncate 864 Bytes off the file and have a clean ROM. After doing that 26 ROMs were immediately detected as known: https://www.dropbox.com/s/10lj0s4m901cd ... s.txt?dl=0 and two are not.
Both are Mario Kart Titles as it seems and I guess USA and EUR, because (8) calls itself AMKE01 and (27) AMKP01. https://www.dropbox.com/s/gdepfcwlcfit3 ... ds.7z?dl=0
Funfact here: The only special ROM in the list is the Japanese Mario Kart ROM. Seems like the rest in lang matters is special too huh?

I guess now I gave you enough for now ^^
