[SNES] WWF Royal Rumble (Euro, Rev. A)

Post by fprietog » 09 Sep 2012 10:18

MESS team has included in their newest revision a SNES ROM that seems to be a legit retail release:

Code: Select all

SNSP-WU-FAH-1: WWF Royal Rumble (Euro, Rev. A)
"spal-wu-1 p0.u1" size="1048576" crc="2fc0089e" sha1="e4f2a278c6929f2b5be70da095f962ee9384e76c"
"spal-wu-1 p1.u2" size="1048576" crc="1b25f125" sha1="71f4b1c835f3b9cbf61d846d48c7b76bcb14bbb6"
Once joined both ROMs (copy /b "spal-wu-1 p0.u1" + "spal-wu-1 p1.u2" "spal-wu-1.sfc") it shown:

Code: Select all

---------------------Internal ROM Info----------------------
       File: spal-wu-1.sfc
Name: WWF ROYAL RUMBLE Company: LJN Ltd.
     Header: None Bank: LoROM
Interleaved: None SRAM: 0 Kb
       Type: Normal ROM: 16 Mb
    Country: Euro/Asia/Oceania Video: PAL
ROM Speed: 120ns (FastROM) Revision: 1.1
   Checksum: Good 0x9829 Game Code:
---------------------------Hashes---------------------------
      CRC32: F9206A29
        MD5: D7478744F1D70105DE4C46B1ACF1A44A
      SHA-1: 5171DD7395D730FB54F57CCC2A9E85B026723D74
It may be included in No-Intro set but I don't know how to verify if it's really legit or not.

I don't believe the MESS team will include fake data so we will probably include it pretty soon as well. Thanks for the info!

You're welcome.

Unfortunately MESS team are, IMHO, doing "strange" things to the SNES ROMset, like adding several times the same ROM with different name or giving false upgrades to other ROMs... I.e., they created a fake "Super Mario Kart (Rev. A)" using the normal (and unique) ROM available twice just because there were cartridges with DSP1 or DSP1B chips... I have a Super Mario Kart cartridge with a DSP1A chip, so they can even make another faked revision if they want.

Well, at least this ROM seems to be legit.

Regards.

That Super Mario Kart is a well-known case - actually I'm the one who found the cart and sent it in for dumping some years ago - expecting a new ROM image - but I was instead confronted with the fact the DSP was updated instead. At this time we realized a revision should view the game as a whole, not just the blank ROM image. The rev A refers to the stamp on the cart's backside so they are technically correct about a revision - just not a software revision as usual. But it's also important for emulator authors to know all official variants of a game.

That Royale Rumble one refers to the chip code spal-wu-1 which is a definite indicator of it being a valid release. Someone must have had the cart and checked the ID which is also typical for a ROM revision. For me there is no reason to belive it's not a correct ROM image.

I recreated this. Found the first half (spal-wu-1 p0.u1) via google, and got the second half (spal-wu-1 p1.u2) by spitting WWF Royal Rumble (Europe) (Rev 0). Then joined the two halves and got fprietog's crc.

Added this to DB. Much thanks and apologies for any lateness. Another retail cart added, another step closer to completion.
