Wolfenstein 3D GBA

Post by Bent » 16 Feb 2014 06:49

The version of this game that has made it into the database with multiple redumps appears to be an partial intro removed dump. The following text is found at the end of the rom, starting at offset 7FFD66:

MODE 7 BRINGS YOU ::: ECKS VS. SEVER (C) BAM ::: AFTER BRINGING YOU DOOM, HERE IS ANOTHER ELITE FPS A FEW DAYS AHEAD OF RETAIL. ENJOY IT EVERYONE! - REMEMBER TRUE SCENERS DON'T CARE ABOUT CRC'S AND UNTOUCHED DUMPS, THOSE THAT DO CAN FUCK OFF AND DIE! - OUR RESPECT TO THE FOLLOWING: CAPITAL . ILLUSION . AGGRESSION . ANTHROX . SNEAKERS . SWAT . MENACE . EURASIA . VENOM . LIGHTFORCE . OK! THAT'S ALL FOR NOW, SEE YOU IN THE NEXT ONE (DO YOU GUYS EVEN READ THIS FAR?)

This appears to have crept into the latest GoodGBA as well.

That's unlikely, given the number of redumps. It seems more likely that, for whatever reason, bam! re-used parts of the scene-rom of their earlier game Ecks vs. Sever when creating this one.

Yes, we discussed this some time ago and every redump from authentic carts turned out to be the same. If I remember correctly even Cowering confirmed that redumps from his dumper friends contain this string.

Really? That would be really strange. Though I guess it could be a way to confuse and mess with us dumpers. I just assumed someone was submitting faulty redumps, either on purpose or through carelessness.

Those dumpers are very reliable. I remember the redumps were done because someone noticed the weird string. Leftover from an intro removal also does not apply because it is from a different game. No one knows how this really got in there. Overall this is indeed a strange part of gaming history though only few people will know

I did a forum search for the game but didn't see the discussion on DoM. Has anyone ever seen another game like this? I can't recall any. Don't worry, I trust the dumps, but I am curious about this now.
