A member in another forums posted this regarding the nes rom in the no-intro database:
"Someone posted a ROM for the 2th Anniversary SMB, but it appears to be a fanmade ROM hack. If you notice here: https://youtu.be/FFgWJCB8fEI?t=96 the actual game says 1985-2010 in the title screen, whereas all ROM files I've seen of it just say 1985 like the original, which leads me to believe that they're fake. Does anyone have a completely legit version of this ROM that isn't a remake?"
My responce after trying the european virtual console rom from datomatic was:
" So i tried the 25th anniv. rom which is in the no intro dat and it indeed says 1985 in the title screen instead of 1985-2010 like in the youtube videos so what is happening?
I read that the boxes in the 25th anniv. have 25 instead of ? and the rom in the dat has 25 in the boxes, only the date in the title screen is not correct."
Do you guys have any idea why the title screen is not 1985-2010 like in the youtube videos?

I played the japanese rom too in a emulator and it too shows 1985 in the title screen instead of 1985-2010...
Aint the 25th anniv only supposed to come in japan and australia btw and not europe?

For what it's worth, this picture shows the Japanese version has 1985-2010 too on actual console: http://dreamandfriends.com/wp-content/u ... 5thsmb.jpg
Could it be that they removed the 2010 in a later revision (maybe because their changes were too small to be copyrighted)? Or could the 2010 have been added with a soft patch?

According to a user in the forum:
"I did a bit of digging and decided to try my hand extracting the rom myself and oddly, when you go and dump the rom, it actually results in the same exact thing, the rom comes out to just having the typical (C)1985 on the title screen with all the blocks changed to 25, and so I decided to do a bit more digging, and it seems like the emulator is patching the game in memory to change the title screen text instead of storing the change as part of the game binary."
So the wii does the job with the vc...whatever

Re: 25th anniversary super mario bros anniversary rom
Even with the soft patches, it would be possible to make a list of all the patches, and build the identical NES ROM for this. And that could be considered a NES dump, I suppose...?Collecter wrote:According to a user in the forum:

However, a lot of Virtual Console games have soft patches to remove blinking things. Would all those be considered variants, too?

The patches aren't necessarily ROM patches. They are often memory patches.
