[NES] Size inconsistencies

Post by Loggan08 » 27 Oct 2018 00:17

King Neptune's Adventure (USA) (Beta) (Unl).nes should be 98 320 (Headered)
Mick & Mack as the Global Gladiators (USA) (Proto) (28.05.1993).nes should be 196 624 (Headered)
Soap Panic (Japan) (Unl).nes should be 65 552 (Headered)
Wild Ball (Asia) (Unl).nes should be 16 400 (Headered)

It comes down to what their actual PRG/CHR size is, I would say these entries in the DoM are overdumped.

The Global Gladiator beta ROMs were assembled from sources. 128KB PRG + greater than 64KB CHR-ROMs. (192KB would be 128+64) So 256KB looks right as the next proper size.

I am strongly recalling that 64KB Soap Panic was a bad dump (it was even visibly a bad dump with graphics corruption later in the game) and 96KB was the correct dump.

The iNES format was designed with a 16KB minimum PRG size, so a iNES-format PRG+CHR ROM has a minimum size of 24KB.

The only other thing that could be done I guess is what was done with the Galaxian (8KB PRG + 8KB CHR) ROM in my set, made it a headerless (and thus unplayable) ROM.

The 64kb Soap Panic is indeed a bad dump, the 96kb is the good one in DoM.

Just needed to know this since i'm making a headered NES Set.
