"x059 - Play-Yan Micro (Japan)" - underdump?

Post by Hiccup » 11 Mar 2019 15:07

I've got a redump of this made using GBA Backup Tool that I was going to add, but it has a *lot* more data than the current dump. The new dump is 33554432 bytes whereas the datted dump (from scene) is 4194304 bytes. Is the original actually an underdump?

I've got the same dump. Looks like the usual dumper garbage to me, not actual data. Do you have a picture of the board?

the dump has a crc32 of E24F6A15

it seems like the scene dump doesn't get passed the health and safety screen (in mgba), whereas this one does.

Thanks for the pictures. Too bad the ROM is not completely visible.

Yes, it does indeed - quite interesting :? . But it doesn't have anything to do with the additional "data". I have another dump with 32 MiB but different crc - I posted about it in the "doubts" thread.

It's not the data, but the size. You can fill the 4 MiB dump with anything you want to that size and it will go past the Screen and boot the Nintendo logo.

The nintendo gba sheet says it should 8M, so maybe both ROMs are wrong. This is an odd cart as it uses an sd card to store media on.

What crc do you get when cutting down to 8 MiB? The one I have is F6340C4D. But it appears to be just garbage. Maybe it requires a different dumping method current dumpers don't support to get a proper 8 MiB file?

By cutting down do you mean padding out? Both dumps are smaller than 8MB.

Padded to 8389000 bytes (8 mebibytes) with 00s: 96186FA4
Padded to 8000000 bytes (8 megabytes) with 00s: E530BDFB

Your "new" dump is 32 MiB as you stated in your first post and so is the one I got. I wanted to see if the first 8 MiB match.

I got decimal and hexadecimal mixed up before, so ignore that post. :sdrop:

CRC32 of first 8 MiB: 9FD40094 (I presume this is the relevant one)
CRC32 of first 8 MB: 14BBC0D1
