Bigfred the Phantasy Star dump you put in the MD dat is from the Saturn version, thus should be removed. Phantasy Star MD is identical to the SMS dump, that's why it has never been included in the dat, it's not a MD game, just the SMS rom in a MD package. All was settled years ago.

hi

weird - Bock included this in his db as Mega Drive version...but he didn't verify this himself as I just got to know from him. Thanks for the info. Did you dump it yourself?

Just google this CRC 07301F83 and you'll see this is actually the rip from the Saturn collection.

And while you're at it, Power Monger (USA) must be renamed to Power Monger (USA, Europe) as MikeHaggar dump showed, and I still think Desert Strike (Japan) should be renamed to Desert Strike (Japan, Korea).

In Bock's db it reads like that

Quote:
This is the Sega Megadrive version, as reissued in Japan on April 2nd, 1994. It was later included in "Phantasy Star Collection" for the Sega Saturn.

According to this Mega Drive and Saturn editions match. Who verified that the real Mega Drive version is the same as the SMS-ROM?

I didn't dump it myself, but at the time it was stated (even on Smspower but I might be wrong) that the MD dump was identical to the SMS one, because the rom was the SMS one running in Master System mode.

Maybe there has been some recent discovery, but I'd like to know if this phrase "This is the Sega Megadrive version, as reissued in Japan on April 2nd, 1994. It was later included in "Phantasy Star Collection" for the Sega Saturn" is from Bock himself, from a trusted dumper, or if it's simply some random retconning by someone who just made assumptions.

Looks like there is no source verifying anything right now. I will contact the original dumper of this one if possible.

Did you try this out from xacrow's header data?

I saw xacrow's header data on his site.
And, I corrected CRC32:A1264F17 by the binary editor.

Thanks a lot :)

I got a reply from Bock about Phantasy Star:

Quote:
The dump labelled MD in Meka.nam (I forgot which exactly) was confirmed as the MD dump by Casiopa a while ago. Maybe there was a confusion but that is what he told me back then.

I think he meant Casiopea (was referring to bto8 in a message before.

Hello.
I have the doubt a little.
When CRC was the same as SMS.
It should be a program only for SMS.

Is the chip that operates the program of SMS installed in Cart?

Mark III/SMS hardware is built into most MegaDrive and Genesis hardware versions. (Notably exceptions starting from Majesco's "Genesis 3" Onward, where only hardware needed for popular Genesis titles was kept.)

I recall in the USA Sega released a "Power Base Convertor" to play SMS games on the Genesis - it's apparently little more than a pass-through adapter for the cartridges, with no additional hardware or software. The vast majority of the SMS library could run through this method. However, this adapter only worked with the Model 1 Genesis - it's form did not fit on the Model 2 (although I heard you could physically mod it to fit and then it'd play), and simply did not work on Genesis 3 (because of the removed hardware.)

If the Phantasy Star Megadrive cart has the same CRC as the SMS dumps, then it would very well be the actual SMS ROM put into a Genesis cart format, without any reprogramming for Genesis-specific hardware whatsoever.

Is the "Kikenbutsu no Butsuri to Kagaku" title correct? Most of the sources list it as "Kikenbutsu no Yasashii Butsuri to Kagaku".
